Beef & Broccoli

One of our favorite meals is a simple beef & broccoli stirfry.  It's simple to make and uses one of the most economical steak cuts.  If you are wondering which steak cuts to choose for which meals, check out the Lazuli Farms steak guide that you can download here.

Why is broccoli so good for me?

Broccoli is a great source of fiber which is great for our gut health.  It also contains lots of vitamins like Vitamin E and K.  And, when prepared right, it tastes amazing!

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs steak (round or minute steak work great), cut into bite size pieces
  • 1 bunch brocolli
  • 1 medium onion, cut into slivers
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, cut into slivers
  • 2 teaspoons fresh ginger (or 1/2 teaspoon powder ginger)
  • 1/2 cup soya sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • pepper & salt to taste
  • 2 to 3 cups rice, cooked

Instructions:

Heat 2 tablespoons lard or oil over medium-high heat in a dutch oven.  Add onions and saute until soft.  Add steak pieces and cook until cooked through but not browned.  Add garlic & bell peppers.  Saute until cooked.  Add ginger, soya sauce, honey, salt and pepper, and stir to combine.  Top with bell peppers and put lid onto the dutch oven.  Cook for approximately 5 to 10 minutes to steam the broccoli.

Meanwhile, cook rice.  The easiest way to cook rice is in the Instant Pot.  Find the recipe here.

Place both pots on the table and top your rice with the beef & broccoli.  Serve with sauerkraut, zucchini relish (find the recipe here), and fermented jalapenos.

Enjoy!

Where to buy a dutch oven for your stirfries, soups, and almost anything else?

You should consider purchasing at least a 6 quart size.  We find this size good for soups, chilis, spaghetti sauces, sourdough bread baking, and more.  Look for an enameled dutch oven of good quality and it will last you for years.  You can find a good one for around $60 to $100 (Canadian).

Have a look at your local hardware store or box store to find a dutch oven.  Or check out the link below to find one on Amazon.ca.
