How does it work to buy a half or whole pig?
You can place your deposit for a half or whole pork from Lazuli Farms!

Once your deposit is placed, Lazuli Farms will contact you with details about an upcoming butcher date for your half or whole pig.  Together, we can find a time that will work well for you!

How will my pork be butchered for me?

Lazuli Farms will take your pig to Forestburg Meats to be processed into your final pork packages to fill your freezer!  Once your pig is at the butcher, it takes about 2 to 3 weeks for the butcher you cut, wrap, and turn your meat into the final products for your plate.  Curing, smoking, and sausage making is a craft that takes a bit of time.  But, be patient, it's worth it!

Your pork will be flash frozen at the butcher and ready to head into your freezer.

How much pork will I get?
Whole pork:

    • approx. 100 to 130 lbs in your freezer
    • This will take up approximately 5 to 7 cubic feet of freezer space

Half pork:

    • approximately 50 to 65 lbs of pork in your freezer
    • this will take up approximately 2.4 to 3.5 cubic feet of freezer space

    How much will my half or whole pork cost?

    We're shifting away from charging by the hanging weight of the pig since that can get super confusing!
    Instead, you'll find one price for your whole or half pork with the option to choose alternate pork cuts to customize your pork to your needs!
    Basic Pork Package | $950 whole or $500 half pork
    Includes your primal cuts of pork - this means you get your pork butchered into roasts, chops, ribs, ground pork, pork belly/side, plus you get pork soup bones and pork fat ready to be rendered.
    A whole pork Basic Package includes:
      • shoulder roasts (2.5 to 3.5 lbs per roast x 10 to 15 lbs total)
      • side ribs x 2 racks
      • bone-in pork chops  with 2 per package (approximately 50 thick-cut chops) - boneless chops or loin roasts can be requested alternately at no extra cost
      • pork leg roasts (2.5 to 3.5 lbs each x 15 to 20 lbs total) - ground pork can be requested alternately at no extra cost
      • ground pork 1 pound packages (20 to 40 lbs)
      • pork belly (3 to 5 lb slabs x 14 to 18 lbs total)
      • pork hocks x 4
      • pork soup bones (2 to 5 lbs)
      • pork fat (3 to 5 lbs) - ready to be rendered into lard for baking, frying, cooking

    A half pork Basic Package would include 1/2 of the cuts listed above.

    Add-Ons and Special Requests
    Upgrade your Basic Pork Package if you want.  There are lots of delicious options available to make your pork even more amazing on your plate! 
    When ordering a whole pork, you may choose the add-on selection for one half or both halves.  This means you could get both back bacon (from one half) and bone-in chops (from the other half).  For half pork orders, you only get one option (ie. you can't have both back bacon and chops).
    Add-Ons for Pork:
      • sliced bacon instead of pork belly | $25 per half
      • back bacon instead of chops | $25 per half 
      • hams instead of leg roasts | $20 per half
      • smoked chops instead of regular chops | $30 per half
      • dinner or breakfast sausage instead of ground pork | $55 per half
      • farmer sausage or garlic sausage ring | $75 per half
      • pepperoni or hot dogs instead of ground pork | $75 per half
      • jerky or smokies instead of ground pork | $85 per half
    Sausage and Value-Added Options (see price above for add-on):
    You may add 1 of these options when ordering a half pork or 2 options when ordering a whole pork.  The butcher uses a minimum of 20 lbs of ground pork/trim to make these items so you will get back approximately 20 lbs+ of the item you choose in 1 lb packages.

    You don't need to decide ALL of this today!  Place your deposit today to hold your half or whole pork.  Then you can choose your cuts just before your pork heads to the butcher.

    How do I get my pork in my freezer?

    You have a few options for getting your meat home to your freezer.  
    You can pick up your half or whole pork right here at Lazuli Farms at no cost!
    You can alternately pick up directly from the butcher at no cost (Forestburg Meats in Forestburg, Alberta).  
    We are no longer offering shipping direct to your door due to the cost and environmental implications.
