Top 3 Reasons to Try Homemade Laundry Soap
Hi there!
Way back when our girls were toddlers, I started making homemade laundry soap. We've tweaked the recipe over time and landed on the recipe we use now.
Are you wondering why we decided to make our own laundry soap? And why we love it so much?
Well, here goes! The top reasons why you should try to make your own laundry soap!
1. Safe
I was inspired to try homemade laundry soap after seeing our babies suffer from red inflamed skin and bums as newborns. We swapped out those chemical laden baby wipes for reusable cloths for wiping their soft bums AND we started searching for a more natural alternative to the strong smelling laundry soap from the store.
We tried some of the "natural" laundry soaps out there but didn't love the cost or how they worked. We decided to try a homemade blend and found out we really liked it! The ingredients are milder than what you find in the store bought laundry soap alternatives.
2. Cleaner clothes
Commercial laundry soaps can actually leave a residue in your clothes that can lead to odour build up and stains. Using less soap and milder soap is better for the longevity of your clothing. We only use a small amount of homemade launddry soap in each load - one tablespoonful! And it gets our clothes nice & clean.
3. Inexpensive!
One batch of laundry soap costs under $15 (here in Alberta, Canada) and makes enough soap for 250 to 300 loads of laundry! That's about 5 cents a load.
