Introducing the June 2025 Soap of the Month - Rosy Rhubarb Soap!
Rhubarb is one of those plants that you can find in nearly every garden here in Alberta. It grows well in our dry, cool climate and is often one of the first perennials to shoot through the soil every spring. Usually by mid-May, we can harvest a bit of rhubarb and turn it into a delicious rhubarb coffee cake, rhubarb jelly, rhubarb muffins, rhubarb apple crisp or rhubarb syrup for ice cream or beverages. Turns out that rhubarb is also good for your skin. It's rich in anti-oxidants like Vitamin C, beta-carotene, and phenolic acid which can help protect skin from free radical damage. There are some anti-inflammatory properties too.
Inspired by the abundant springtime rhubarb on the farm, June's soap of the month is made with rhubarb "juice" (simmered down from fresh rhubarb stalks). The vibrant maroon-pink color of this soap comes from rhubarb root powder infused olive oil.
The soap is scented with a pure essential oil blend of tangerine, grapefruit, lemongrass, ginger, and teakwood - making the soap citrusy, woodsy, and uplifting!
The soap incorporates olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter, and lard to make a nourishing, gentle soap with a lovely lather. The lard comes from pigs raised outdoors in the sunshine making the fats rich in vitamins & nutrients.
Our ancestors used animal fats to make quality, simple soaps for hundreds of years. During the industrial revolution, manufacturers looked for ways to mass produce home & personal products as cheaply as possible - replacing animal fat soaps with soaps made from synthetic & highly processed oils.
Please note that this soap has slight imperfections where the soap batter hardened quickly and didn’t pour smoothly into the soap mold. The bars have some indents along the sides instead of being perfectly straight. It was my first time making this rhubarb soap recipe so was surprised when the soap set up so fast! The soap is wonderfully scented & will work just as well … giving you some savings on these soap bars due to the imperfections.
Ingredients: outdoor humanely raised pork lard, coconut oil, olive oil, shea butter, kaolin clay, rhubarb root powder, essential oils.
CARE: As with any skin product, sensitivities may occur. Always try a test patch prior to regular use.
Variations in color or texture, or minor separation may occur due to the purity of our products. For best longevity, store in a cool, dry area.
