The final weight of your beef selections in the freezer will vary depending on the size of the animal and the cuts that you choose from the butcher. The final weight of beef cuts in your freezer will be approximately 200 lbs of beef (varies from approximately 180 to 220 lbs). This will take up approximately 8 to 10 cubic feet in your freezer.
A beef order of 200 lbs will feed a family of four for approximately 160 to 175 meals - that's enough beef to eat three delicious beef based meals each week for a year!
Your cost for the beef is $4.85 per pound based on the hanging weight of the half beef at the butcher. Hanging weight is approximately 350 lbs for a half beef (varies from 320 to 380 lbs). You end up with 50 to 60% of this weight depending on the cuts your select (for example, boneless versus bone-in selections, keeping organs and soap bones, etc.).
You will choose your cuts from the butcher. Cutting & wrapping fees will be paid directly to the butcher. Cost for cutting & wrapping a half beef is approximately $300 to $500 depending on the additional processing you choose (sausage, pepperoni, burger patties, hotdogs, jerky).
Your half beef can be picked up directly from the butcher (Forestburg Meats) or from the farm at no charge. Delivery is available at $100 to most areas.
